Description: This publication examines the relative importance and relevance of regional and multilateral trade agreements and systems for China. The author argues that China has engaged in both, but is more focused on regional developments and on the Asian economic environment. It is, the author states, focused on the Asia-Pacific, while reaching out globally. The author notes that it is important for China not to act too hastily, but to push forward regional cooperation step by step; from adjacent to remote regions and from easy to difficult ones.
