Description: This chapter discusses what the author has termed 'the new civic integrationist turn' in European immigration and naturalization policies. According to him, the anatomy of this turn is evident throughout northwestern Europe in the proliferation of civic integration programs and courses, citizenship tests, contracts and ceremonies, civics education and broader national discourses on the problems of multiculturalism and the normative terms of immigrant inclusion, including the terms of citizenship acquisition. The paper focuses on such programs in Denmark in particular.
