Description: Delegates to the 1995 Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review and Extension Conference described the Middle East as a region of tension. In the context of Decision 2 paragraph 6 of the Conference they stated that "the development of nuclear-weapon-free zones especially in regions of tension such as the Middle East, as well as the establishment of a zone free of all weapons of mass destruction (WMD) should be encouraged as a matter of priority taking into account the specific characteristics of each region."
