The OSCE: Fighting for Renewed RelevanceAuthor(s): Daniel TrachslerPublisher(s): Center for Security Studies (CSS), ETH Zurich, Switzerland Date of publication: Mar 2012 Issue number: 110 Pages: 4 Series: CSS Analysis in Security Policy Description: Facing competition from other security organisations and weakened by internal division, this policy brief discusses how the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) is battling against a loss of relevance. These challenges are the other side of the coin of the OCSE’s comparative advantages: its broad membership base and its comprehensive concept of security. While a trend reversal is currently not in the offing, the need for an organization like the OSCE remains, and thus, it may be able to enhance its relevance once more.
