Description: The Council of Europe (CoE) is the continent's oldest political organization. It was set up in 1949 to defend human rights, parliamentary democracy, and the rule of law, as well as to develop continent-wide agreements to standardize member countries' social and legal practices and to promote awareness of a European identity based on shared values, cutting across different cultures. The publications issues by the CoE feature information on a wide variety of issues relating to regional development and stability in Europe.
