Description: This case study examines the causes and consequences of a resurgence of nationalist movements in the Balkans during the 1990s, and the emergence of conflicts in the region following the collapse of communism in Eastern Europe. In particular, the author examines the case of the former Yugoslavia and considers some of the solutions offered by social science theories for alleviating ethnic tensions and conflicts, with some emphasis on the case of Kosovo.
