Description: This book examines how regional organizations can motivate and assist their member states with the implementation of Security Council Resolution 1540. The authors argue that organizations in Africa, Latin America and Southeast Asia and the Pacific could play a significant role in implementing this resolution, a critical tool for preventing non-state actors from obtaining weapons of mass destruction. They look at the experiences of these organizations in conventional security issues, such as small arms control, and at the lessons they offer for addressing weapons of mass destruction in regions where the issue is not considered a high priority.
