European Integration and Domestic Regions: A Numerical Simulation AnalysisAuthor(s): Arne MelchiorPublisher(s): Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI), Oslo ISBN: 978-82-7002-211-3 Date of publication: Dec 2008 Issue number: 749 Format: PDF Pages: 60 Series: NUPI Working Papers Description: This paper develops a numerical simulation model with nine countries and 90 regions in order to examine the impact of European and international integration on the regions. The author explains that eastward extension of European integration is beneficial for old as well as new members, but within countries the impact varies along the east-west axis. According to this publication, reduction in distance-related trade costs is particularly good for the European peripheries. The author concludes that each liberalization scenario has a distinct impact on spatial income distribution. General note: © 2008 Norwegian Institute of International Affairs (NUPI)Download:
